Abbeville SC Welcome center, (aka) the first bank in South Carolina
Designed by Henry James, cir.1865 this building was designed to house the first bank in South Carolina. A Fire in the Abbeville town square destroyed most of the buildings in 1870's leaving the bank untouched. This makes the building one of the oldest standing structures in Abbeville. This building stayed a bank and changed hands till 1995-1996 where it was donated to the city of Abbeville by Nations bank and turned into the welcome center and museum of Abbeville's early days. Across the square from the welcome center is the infamous Abbeville Opera house and the Belmont Hotel. We would like to Thank Mr. Shawn M. Bell (Councilman) for granting us access to conduct a paranormal investigation at the beginning of March 2014 . This area is rich in early american history, bloodshed and performing arts. Travelers, stage actors and immigration to this area in the early days made this a hub of activity and money.
Upon investigating the town square itself, we captured an image of a young boy in the upper left window of the welcome center prompting us to send a request for access form to Mr. Bell. We talked, have some legal formalities to sign, security to procure and then set a date for the investigation. Investigation date was
March 08, 2014, We started at 6 pm and ended at 9 pm. S.W.P.R. would like to Thank Mr.Bell and the Police Officers of Abbeville SC for their support and protection during the investigation. I think they had as much fun as we did. I have to say it was an excellent investigation, we found a crawl space under the floor of one office. Of course we checked it out! LOL. There was an attic or third floor we couldn't find access to but we caught lots of evidence.
